Sweden in Rio de Janeiro announces position for Consular Affairs & Promotion Officer, starting on May 3rd, 2021.

 About the opportunity

The relationship between Sweden and Brazil formed during nearly 200 years has entered a new and dynamic phase, deepening the general bilateral cooperation between the two countries. The consulate’s mission is to maintain and strengthen Sweden’s relations with Brazil as well as safeguard, promote Swedish interests and assist Swedish citizens in the states of Rio de Janeiro, Goiás and Espírito Santo.

The job of the Consular Affairs & Promotion Officer is to provide service to Swedish citizens and people interested in Sweden, as well as to lead Sweden’s communication and promotion in the region:

Consular affairs:

  • Assist Swedish citizens in need of emergency assistance
  • Notary services, delivery of documents, issuance of emergency passports, etc.
  • Provide information about Sweden to the Brazilian public
  • Support the embassy in visa application processes

Promotion

  • Institutional & stakeholder engagement for the promotion of Swedish values
  • Development and participation of events & meetings
  • Preparation of official delegation visits
  • Assist the Consul in representation for external meetings, when necessary
  • Content and management of social networks & consulate website
  • Support Swedish authorities in planning and logistics for official visits from Sweden.

Administrative

  • Writing official correspondence to authorities, preparation of activity reports and budget control.
  • Archive management, scheduling meetings, answering inquiries.

 

About the candidate’s profile

  • The candidate must be fluent in English and Portuguese. Intermediate knowledge of Swedish is essential.
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience. Education in relevant area (no specific subject definition but must reflect the capacity to hold the position).
  • Proven professional experience in similar positions in the private or public sector and previous knowledge of international relations are highly desirable qualifications.
  • Communicative, creative, dynamic and flexible profile, as the job involves representation on behalf of the Consulate and creation of contact networks.
  • The Consulate’s working environment is small, so the Officer needs to be proactive and know both how to work well independently as well as how to cooperate with a team at a distance.
  • Ability and talent for writing. Good knowledge of social media management.
  • Occasional availability to work outside normal office hours.
  • A prerequisite for hiring is that the candidate has a work permit in Brazil.
